Dawson Co-op Equity, Patronage and Our Members

Being part of the Dawson Co-op means more than just shopping at a local store. It means being part of a community that values shared success and mutual benefits. Equity cheques are our way of giving back to you, our valued members. When you shop with us, you earn equity based on your purchases. This equity represents your share of the co-op's profits, and we distribute it annually as a token of our gratitude for your continued patronage.

We do strive to be consistent every year with our allocations, and we do understand the importance of the equity and cash program back to our members. However, it has been a tougher year for the Dawson Co-op financially; and due to this, combined with our recent and upcoming investments into our capital assets, we have had to allocate much less patronage and cash back to our members than we have in the past.

In addition to this, in accordance with our governing bylaws that dictate the requirement for a specific percentage of our annual profits to go back into our General Reserves, the equity allocation this year was less. While many of you will be receiving an equity cheque this year, we want to extend our apologies to those who may not.

Our intention moving forward is to get back on track to what we would normally expect to be able to distribute as equity to our members.

We will begin mailing the equity cheques during the week of June 3, 2024. Please keep an eye on your mailbox, and allow a few days for delivery. If you do not receive your cheque within a couple of weeks, feel free to reach out to our team, and we will be happy to assist you.
